Before You Buy, Consider Contacting Your Insurance Company

Insurance is vital when purchasing a home.  You want to make sure you have coverage and can be insured on the property you are purchasing. Insurance coverage is for the property, not for you, so each property you purchase requires different coverage.   Just because you currently have home insurance or vehicle insurance, doesn’t mean you are covered on the property you are going to purchase.   Whether you are a first time home buyer, or seasoned mover, make sure you are able to get insurance on your new home.

As a first time home-buyer, discuss the features of the home with your insurance company and request a quote from them.  Find out what it will cost you so you have an idea of what your increased expenses will be with home ownership.  If you already have vehicle insurance with them, it should be relatively straight forward to add on insurance for your property.  You may even get a slightly better rate by insuring more products with the same company.  However, there may be features about the home that can pose challenges when getting insurance.  A couple of these examples could be; oil tanks, fireplaces, types of wiring and types of insulation.

By asking these questions prior to purchase, you're finding out what your insurance company will require of you, to be insured in your new home and giving yourself peace of mind.
As your Real Estate Agent, I will guide you through this process and help you with any of the necessary information or paperwork required by your insurance company to ensure that you are covered on moving day.
